A blast resulting from bulk powder can have devastating effects on human life and plant/equipment. The reason for this is that dust/powder when stored in amounts as small as 1Kg can become highly combustible. A large scale dust explosion can race through a structure causing considerable damage. In 2008, 14 workers died in the U.S.A following an unexpected explosion resulting from accumulations bulk powders being exposed to unsuitable conditions caused from poor and no explosion protection measures in place. This explosion would have been prevented had adequate methods of explosion control been put in place.
